Herb Dean assigned as referee for Renan Barao vs. T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 173

UFC 173 will take place next weekend in Las Vegas the Herb Dean has been assigned as the referee for the main event title fight as Renan Barao defends the UFC bantamweight title against T.J. Dillashaw. UFC 173 Poster

The Nevada State Athletic Commission made the assignment during their meeting on Tuesday and they also assigned Derek Cleary, Chris Lee, and Tony Weeks as the judges for the title fight.

Dean was one of three referees nominated for this fight, with the other two being Yves Lavigne and Jason Herzog. Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar nominated Dean along with the judges, which the commission unanimously approved.

UFC 173 will mark the third straight UFC pay-per-view event that has taken place in Las Vegas that Dean will be the referee. He was the referee for the UFC 168 and UFC 170 main event title fights in Las Vegas and the last UFC pay-per-view in Las Vegas that he was not the main event was UFC 167 last November.

The judging and referee assignments for the remaining bouts at UFC 173 will be announced by the Nevada State Athletic Commission next week.
