Alejandra Lara

Bellator MMA

The main event of Friday’s Bellator 201 will be a women’s flyweight title fight as Alejandra Lara will look to claim the title when she takes on champion Ilima Macfarlane on the fight card coming from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.

Lara (7-1) won her Bellator debut last year against Lena Ovchynnikova by decision at Bellator 190 and she has won her last two fights by rear-naked choke submission.

During last week’s podcast, Lara was a guest on the show to preview her fight against Macfarlane and explained what she wants fans to know about her heading into Bellator 201.

How does Eddie Hearn get a 1 billion dollar deal and he doesn’t have any big fights he can put on Dazn. But Bellator only gets 100 million? They have way bigger fights and better fighters.

I wish they were on CBS or Pluto TV. I thought it was going to be an international deal like for example Italy broadcast deal.

Is this truly a game changer in your opinion?

Do you think ACB can give Bellator a run for it’s money for number 2?

Who do you think would win these fights:

McGregor vs Chandler? Alvarez vs Chandler 3? Lesnar vs Volkov? Machida vs king mo? Volkov vs Blaydes? Fedor vs Barnett? Lesnar vs Cain 2? Lesnar vs Overeem 2? cro cop vs Carwin? Mir vs Barnett 2?

Is the deal 100 million per year or for the whole five years?

What’s the latest with johnny Hendricks free agency?

      Combat Sports Fan,

I am planning to touch on the DAZN deal on tomorrow’s podcast.

In terms of your other questions
      – Do you think ACB can give Bellator a run for it’s money for number 2? I would say no, but ACB is hurting the United States regional scene with the amount of money they are offering fighters. AKA, US based promotions are going to have to pay more to keep that talent in the US.
      – Who do you think would win these fights: McGregor vs Chandler? Alvarez vs Chandler 3? Lesnar vs Volkov? Machida vs king mo? Volkov vs Blaydes? Fedor vs Barnett? Lesnar vs Cain 2? Lesnar vs Overeem 2? cro cop vs Carwin? Mir vs Barnett 2? McGregor, Chandler, Lesnar, King Mo, Blaydes, Fedor, Cain, Overeem, Barnett.
      – What’s the latest with johnny Hendricks free agency? Let me look into this. Haven’t heard much in a while on this.

looks like Michael Chandler is finally on his way to the UFC. Who should he fight in his debut?

Josh Barnett I think will sign with Bellator and still commentate for New Japan pro wrestling (NJPW) Also maybe fight in Rizin.

Do you think UFC will release Mark Hunt like they did Barnett since he’s unhappy with them?

Fight Pass, Fite tv, Flosports, Fight Network, Dazn: Out of these which ones do you have or will you get?

    • Jason Floyd

As I stated a couple of weeks ago on the podcast, I feel that Bellator was going to have to overpay to keep Chandler. If Bellator and UFC offer are similar, can’t blame Chandler for wanting to go to the UFC. At this time, to prove he’s one of the best if not the best lightweight, he can only do that in the UFC.

Mark Hunt has 2 fights left on his deal. I expect him to fight them out, but highly unlikely anyone is going to pay him what UFC is paying him.

Out of the services you listed, I currently only have Fight Pass. Once Bellator starts streaming on DAZN, I will subscribe to that service, most likely.

Do you think the Dazn deal is better than let’s say a Netflix or Hulu? And do you think Bellator can still get a deal with either Netflix, Hulu or Pluto TV? FYI: Pluto TV is a free streaming channel that has Movies, MMA, Pro wrestling, kickboxing, News, Cooking, Outdoor. It probably has more channels than basic cable.

UFC really want’s Bellator to become bankrupt. I think that’s their goal. UFC matched Machida’s contract offer but still let him go to Bellator so they can pay him a ton of money. Bellator better be smart and not sign every free agent just because they can. I hope they develop and re sign their prospects and home grown stars. like for example Chandler, MVP, Daley, Carvalho, Shlemenko. Who are all soon to be free agents.

    • Jason Floyd

When it comes to keeping the “home grown” fighters, they are going to have to compete with the UFC and other organizations to keep them. As I have always said, you can only find out your worth if you have multiple companies bidding for your services.

Viacom has deals with Netflix and Hulu. So a deal with one of those with Bellator would’ve been a no brainer. I don’t think they would get nearly as much money from any of those other ones than the Dazn deal.

    • Jason Floyd

From the financial side, DAZN is a great deal for Bellator. However, it’s now another streaming platform fight fans are going to have to purchase. For me, that’s the major downside of this deal. We both know it’s very expensive to be a MMA fan in comparison to other sports.
