The co-main event of UFC 176 on August 2nd is now booked as Gegard Mousasi will face Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a rematch of their 2008 bout which Mousasi won by knockout in the first round to win the DREAM middleweight title.
The fight booking was reported by the LA Times and has now been confirmed by the UFC.
UFC 176 will come from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and will be headlined by a title rematch as Jose Aldo defends the featherweight title against Chad Mendes.
Mousasi (35-4-2) entered the UFC last year and has won two of his three fights in the promotion. He is coming off a first round submission victory against Mark Munoz at UFC Fight Night 41 in Germany and his only defeat in the UFC came against Lyoto Machida.
Souza (20-3, 1NC) has won six in a row since losing the Strikeforce middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in 2011. During his winning streak, five of the victories have come by stoppage and he is coming off a decision win against Francis Carmont at UFC Fight Night 36.
