UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be in attendance on Saturday night at UFC 154, but has no plans to challenge welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre if he is successful against Carlos Condit.
Silva told this to the Brazilian website Tatame and he does not plan to fight again in the UFC until late 2013.
He wants to take care of things away from the sport, which include filming a movie and business projects that include a brad new gym in Los Angeles.
If he lives up to his work and that he doesn’t plan to fight until late 2013, it would be the first time in his career that he may only fight once in a calendar year. Since 2009, he has only fought twice a year and he only defended the UFC middleweight title once this year.
It appeared that the UFC wanted to set up a catchweight bout between Silva and St-Pierre in the early part of 2012, which the fight could take place at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.
If Silva wants to sit out for an extended period of time, MMA fans may once again miss out on two of the top fighters in the world meeting in the octagon.
