Bellator 136 changes: Jay Bogan vs. Justin Governale added, Chris Herrera replaces Ben Jones against Luc Bondole

Next week’s Bellator 136 has seen a new fight added to the card as Jay Bogan meets Justin Governale in a featherweight bout and Chris Herrera is replacing Ben Jones against Luc Bondole. Bellator136

Both changes were announced by Bellator on Friday afternoon.

Bellator 136 will come from the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California on April 10 and will be headlined by Will Brooks defending the lightweight title against Dave Jansen.

Bogan (6-4) has won four in a row by submission in the first round and five of his six wins have come by submission. His most recent win came in February as he defeated Chris Culley by arm-triangle choke submission at King of the Cage: Coming Home. Governale (3-2) made his professional MMA debut in 2013 and won three in a row after losing his pro debut. In his last fight, he was defeated by Ian Millan by TKO at Gladiator Challenge.

Herrera (3-1) won his Bellator debut in January when he defeated Bondole by knockout in the second round. All of his wins have come by TKO/KO and his only defeat came by submission. Bondole (4-1-1) began his MMA career in 2012 and was unbeaten before making his Bellator debut against Herrera. Three of his wins have come by decision and his only stoppage win came by submission.

  1. I saw Honeycutt’s tweet. So does that mean the tent pole’s are gonna be on Fridays from now on?

    1. Just look at Spike’s marketing campaign for all of their combat sports programming, that should tell you their plans.

      1. Tent pole events are their biggest and it should be on Saturdays. They will get far less ratings on Fridays. Have you ever seen a Friday card do over 800k? They never have. The highest rated was 880k at 110. Never once in the 900 k’s and obviously never over a million on a Friday. On Saturdays the 2 highest rated Bellator ever was 106, 1.1 million /peak 1.4 mil/ 131: 1.2 mil /peak 2 mil. I hope they at least move the time up 1 hr 10-1 est for their tent poles. 10-12:15 est regular cards.

        1. Friday cards over 800k average: Bellator 110 (880k), Bellator 115 (828k), and Bellator 134 (872k).

        2. What I meant is never over 900 k*. When they were on Thursdays 10-12 est they had a few cards do over 900k. on Saturdays they had a couple do over 1 mil.

        3. I do expect Kimbo vs Shamrock to do 1.2 mil. Only if that fight happens or if Kimbo at least stays on the card. They got a couple of great boxing cards on Spike coming up. But I doubt they’d do over 1 million on Fridays. I like fights on Fridays, but I feel like the big events/ big fights should always be on a Saturday. Hbu?

        4. I am not a television executive, but let me put it this way. If Viacom/Spike executives thought putting the events on Saturday would be a drastic difference in viewership, the events would be on Saturdays.

        5. We’ll see how their tent poles do on Fridays from now on. Last one didn’t do that well. But there were a lot of injuries that took place on that card.
