The seventh episode of The Ultimate Fighter 21 premiered on Wednesday night on Fox Sports 1 and the show began with American Top Team going through a workout at their gym.
Following the workout, American Top Team coach Conan Silveira talked to his fighters about the opportunity that is in front of them. Explains how there are other fighters that would love this opportunity and they need to capitalize on it.
At this point, UFC President Dana White mentions that both teams can bring in substitute fighters and the Blackzilians inform Andrews Nakahara that he is being removed from the competition since he was given a 30 day suspension by the Florida State Boxing Commission due to his knockout defeat against Hayder Hassan. They decide that Alexandre Pimentel will be replacing Nakahara and over at the American Top Team gym, Lambert announces that he is bringing in Cristiano Souza to replace Steve Montgomery.
With the decision made of Souza being brought into the competition, the team decides that Nathan Coy will be fighting for them next. While the Blackzilians do not know Coy will be fighting next for American Top Team, they figured that Coy would be next up and they decide to have Vicente Luque fight for them.
At the official weigh-ins, both fighters make weight and the fight between Coy and Luque is official for the next day at the Blackzilian gym. With the weigh-ins over, both fighters went through their final preparations at their home gyms. Prior to the fight starting, White mentions how this is the second time that the American Top Team has sent a veteran to face a younger fighter. The first time this happened, the Blackzilians walked away with the victory.
At the beginning of the fight, Coy immediately looked for a takedown and Luque was able to stop the attempt. After a striking exchange, Coy looked for another takedown against the cage. Once again, Luque would defend the attempt and made Coy pay for the takedown with punches. Luque scored with his strikes and once against, Coy looked for a takedown against the fence. Coy would briefly get the fight to the ground, but Luque worked back to his feet. They would battle against the cage for the rest of the round and the fight moved into the second round.
The second round began with both fighters landing their punches and Luque appeared to be landing the better strikes. After striking for half of the round, Coy looked for a takedown against the fence. He would eventually get the fight to the ground, but had to defend a submission attempt from Luque. The round would end with the fighters on the mat and the referee informed both fighters there will be a third round.
In the final round, Coy continued to look for a takedown against the fence. He would be unable to get a takedown and following a slip by Coy, Luque locked in a choke. Coy would end up tapping out to the submission and the Blackzilians are now 6-1 in the competition. With the win, they now have 200-50 lead heading into eighth fight next week.
