In the second middleweight tournament semifinal, Mikkel Parlo was able to use his striking and stay away from the ground to defeat Jason Butcher to advance to the tournament final.
As the referee started the fight, Butcher came out as the aggressor with his strikes but Parlo was able to land his counter punches. Butcher attempted to get the fight to the ground but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Parlo would catch a kick and Butcher went to the mat. However, Parlo would not follow him to the ground and they continued to strike. After an exchange of strikes, Butcher was able to get the fight to the ground but Parlo was able to get back to his feet quickly.
They would continue to strike with Butcher trying to bait Parlo into going to the mat with him. However, Parlo would not take the bait and would keep the fight on the feet until the bell sounded to end the first round.
Butcher was able to get off to a good start in the second round by landing an uppercut and once again, his takedown attempt would be stopped. They would continue to exchange strikes and include Parlo landing an uppercut. Both fighters would land significant strikes with Parlo landing more frequently.
With 45 seconds left in the round, Parlo would drop Butcher but elected to not follow him to the ground and have him stand back up. As the round was coming to an end, Parlo would land a punch that dropped Butcher but he could not finish the fight before the round came to an end.
Parlo continued to control the fight with his striking as the third round opened and once again, Butcher could not bait him to come to the ground. Butcher attempted to use a takedown to get the fight to the ground but Parlo would stop the attempt and force Butcher to stand up.
In the final two minutes of the fight, Parlo was able to land multiple strikes that Butcher fell to the ground in the hopes that Parlo would follow him to the ground. He would follow him to the ground momentarily, but would get back to his feet before Butcher could attempt a submission.
As the fight came to an end, Parlo (11-1) landed several punches on the ground and would get the decision victory. He now advances to the middleweight tournament final where he will face Brennan Ward for the $100,000 prize and a shot at the Bellator title.
