Dennis Olson was suspended three months and fined an undisclosed amount of money by the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations for unsportsmanlike conduct at Bellator 144.
The unsportsmanlike conduct was from Olson flipping off the fans in attendance at the Mohegan Sun Arena during his walkout for his co-main event bout against Brennan Ward.
Following the suspension and fine being handed issued, Olson had a pre-hearing with the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations to discuss what happened last Friday night.
According to Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations Director Mike Mazzulli, Olson’s fined has been reduced after the fighter issued a public apology to the commission, Bellator, and the fans. Olson’s complete apology letter is below and while the fine has been reduced, he is still suspended three months for his actions.
October 26, 2015
To: Mike Mazzulli, Bellator, and the MMA Fans
I want to take a moment of everyone’s time and apologize for last Friday. While walking into the cage, I had a lapse in judgement. I wear my heart on my sleeve and my emotions got the best of me. As a professional athlete, I know I should be held to a higher standard. I am human and do make mistakes, but I am a man and own up to my mistakes. I will learn from this and it will never happen again.
To Mr. Mazzulli, Bellator and the MMA fans who witness this, I am truly remorseful.
Please accept my apology.
Dennis “The Menace” Olson
